Deviate Magazine, in all reforms, hopes to make a point that those who deviate from the norms and more traveled roads are neither inherently bad nor unacceptable.
Instead, we are the changers, inspirations, and the future. This magazine not only unites young creatives who spearhead and consume the magazine, but it will allow the campus to enjoy art and literature from the lens of marginalized people.
Deviate allows us to be the authors of our own stories, and speak on our experiences through our own terms.
Our creators have a lot to say. Here’s the peeps who bring DEVIATE to life.
Bailei Burgess-Simmons (Founder): Lover of all things creative and Frank ocean fanatic. My death row meal would be a giant breakfast spread and an Oreo milkshake. I’m a cat mom and one thing I’d never change about myself is my big old gapped smiled 🙂
Francis Longo: Francis Longo is a visual artist working in photography, video, and installation. His art practice revolves around documenting raw, authentic moments of human expression.
Sonny Lopez: Future urban planner who’s not only going to bring public transit to the U.S. but who’s also invested in bringing some culture too. A community isn’t a community until there’s graffiti on trains and posters plastered on brick walls – or in other words until deviants run rampant.
Beck Nieves: Artist, Writer, Editor. Environmental enthusiast and annoying about it. Certified hater connoisseur.
Veronica Gomez: As a multidisciplinary artist, chronic hermit, and editor, I am fully committed to nitpicking when and wherever I am not needed. I also make cool sweaters sometimes.
Sebastian Lamboy: Writer. Tailor. Aspiring punk musician. Guy who semi-frequently falls into rivers. Can either be found writing, planning to write, or covered in paint. Would love to talk about skeletons and civil infrastructure.
Bri Bentley:The College of New Jersey alumna, model, and cosplayer.
Chloe Peterson: If the room isn’t full of creatives I’m in the wrong room! I’m in love with all art forms including writing, music, and photography. So clearly, being apart of this magazine is extremely fulfilling and I’m very thankful to be apart of a team with such cool people.
